Biography

From an early age Joseph was involved in music. Playing trumpet in various bands and ensembles gave him experiences that fed his love of music. After spending three semesters studying classical trumpet under famed Walter Chestnut at The Univerisity of Massachuesettes in Amherst, Joseph changed his focus toward jazz and attended Berklee College of Music. It was there that he fell in love with film music. While continuing his studies in trumpet under such great muscians and teachers like Mike Matheny (brother of Pat Matheney) and Leon Merian, Joseph studied film composition under the dean of the film scoring department, Don Wilkins. In his senior year, he was chosen to score a PBS docudrama using a small chamber orchestra. Upon his graduation, he moved to Hollywood and began his career in the film industry as a music editor.

Today Joseph has over 30 feature film credits as a music editor working alongside composers like Rachel Portman, (Because of Winn-Dixie), George Fenton (Last Holiday), Elmer Bernstein (Mad Dog and Glory), Philip Glass (Academy Award Nominated Score, Notes on a Scandal). In the spring of 2007, Joseph completed a film with Mark Isham for Terry George's latest, "Reservation Road". Currently he is finishing the James McTeigue (V for Vendetta) film, Ninja Assassin with composer Ilan Eshkeri.

Joseph’s credits as composer include the films: Confessions of a Suburban Girl, The Dean of Thin Air,Blessing and Flypaper. He also wrote additional music for What’s Eating Gilbert Grape - Paramount Pictures and Mad Dog and Glory - Universal Pictures.
